I procrastinated on linking this, because I kept wanting to rewrite it, and now I have a little bit. Not as much as I thought I would. Anyway. I still think it could be a longer and better fic, but this will do for now. Link goes to my fic journal, since that's where the edited version lives at the moment.

So I'm a little overwhelmed with the post-car-crash blues, and I thought, hey, I haven't done a first-lines challenge in a while. Maybe that would be fun!

Here's the scoop. mirabellawotr said back in 2004, "...it might be cool to start a meme where you list all the first lines of your fics and then people write drabbles in the comments with the same first line.". And it was, indeed, cool. So. The way it goes is I give you a list of first lines from my fics, and you write completely different fics using my first lines. I've always before kept up the drabble bit of the meme, but this time around I don't care. Drabbles, ficlets, epics, anything goes. Any fandom. Anything.

I'm only going to offer up first lines of fics I've written since my last challenge (which was about a year ago), but all my fics are here, and you can choose another first line if you really want to. ETA: Adding in last year's first lines, just for more variety and HP-friendliness.

I'm also okay if you change names in the first lines, for use in different fandoms, if need be. I realize as I look at these, that so many of them are fandom-specific, due to the character names appearing in the first lines.

So I thought I'd start a little discussion about the results (so far) of yesterday's Myers-Briggs personality type poll. As I mentioned yesterday, my main purpose for conducting the poll was to see how the results might differ from aishuu's poll. The part I didn't mention, was that her poll revealed a very heavy concentration of INTJs--far more than any other type--and I was curious whether this was more indicative of fandom trends in general, or the fact that she is an INTJ and might be most drawn to other INTJs. The answer seems to be a little bit of both. :)

I'm still not at work, which has its nice points, certainly, but mostly just feels a bit icky and is giving me anxiety. So I thought maybe I should try something fun. I noticed that some people have started posting lists of their first lines around, and it seemed like it might be time again for a First Lines Challenge. I think mirabellawotr started it last time (2004 in my recollection), but a lot of people ended up doing it, and it was great fun as I recall. Ah, yes, here was my entry from back then. I wrote a few too. Uh. Damn, that was fun. So, anyway, I thought I'd try to start one.

I'm going to offer only the first lines of fics I've written since the last challenge, though if you really want to use one of those, I won't throw a fit. I'm not including Mood Beans. I have unlocked at least one fic I hadn't intended to speak of ever again.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write a drabble with the same first line (from any of the above), and leave it in my comments here. I'm going to say that you may also write a ficlet (in other words, not exactly 100 words) if you wish, because I'm just not feeling as picky this time. And because one of my favorite pieces from last time was a ficlet.

Any fandom, any genre is appropriate. Experimentation encouraged. :)

I've been so bogged down with work and illness and other unpleasant things, that livejournal has really slipped away from me. I miss it, and I miss you people, so I'm going to take the thirty seconds I seem to have available for my lunch break today and take some advice from Jaci.
